YOUNG Wayne Bradley is so committed to organising a raffle for the Macmillan Windmill Appeal that he has donated one of his own Christmas presents as a prize!
And that's not all. Wayne, 11, from Fairfield Road, North Shore, told his mum to give his weekly pocket money to the appeal.
The schoolboy's generosity wins him the Citizen's Little Champion award and he has been presented with a special T-shirt for his efforts.
Wayne's donation to the raffle he himself has organised is a CD player he was given for Christmas and, with the help of his mother Deanne he has managed to collect more prizes from local shops and now has a bumper collection of prizes to offer.
By selling tickets to family and friends he has so far raised a superb £60 for the appeal and hopes to raise £200 in total.
The draw will be held in the next few weeks and ticket sales have been so successful he is now busy working on another raffle as well as an "event day" at Holy Family primary school which he attends.
Wayne, pictured here with some of the prizes raffled, got the idea when his brother Sean was in hospital and he heard about local radio presenter Gary Burgess being treated for cancer. His proud mum Deanne said: "I am absolutely delighted at what Wayne has done and am very proud of him. It was all his idea and it started when he asked me to donate his pocket money to the Macmillan Windmill Appeal.
"He is determined to raise as much money as he can and is working very hard selling tickets and wrapping up the prizes. Listening to Gary Burgess on the radio was a real inspiration for him and with his brother Sean being ill he really wanted to do something.
"We first sold tickets to family and friends and then expanded it after speaking to Mr Gandhi at the appeal office."
Mrs Bradley praised local shops for their generosity.
"The local shops have been wonderful and I would like to thank them for their donations.
"I was amazed when we went into a local shop selling tickets and they asked if they could give a prize.
"Wayne's school has also been very helpful and he is hoping to arrange an event day soon." Thanks to your generosity the Macmillan Windmill Appeal fund now stands at a magnificent £107,345 with more money pouring in all the time.
