COUNCIL chiefs in Hyndburn are to lobby regional development chiefs to try to win a slice of £20million in European cash to fund community regeneration projects.
The borough last year lost its Objective Two funding, which has helped pay for community projects in deprived areas. The projects include an after-school club in Spring Hill, Accrington, for children whose parents are seeking work, and an Asian community centre in the town.
Council leader Coun Peter Britcliffe said it was vital that the authority lobbied the North West Development Agency to get its share of transitional funding which aims to keep some level of support for areas which have lost Objective Two cash.
The £6m of European funding received by the borough in the past 10 years has helped create 2,000 new jobs, balancing out the 2,500 jobs lost in that time.
