LIBERAL Democrats in Blackburn and Darwen have blasted Home Secretary Jack Straw for allowing the number of bobbies on the beat in Lancashire to fall.
Recently published figures on the numbers of police officers in the county showed a fall of 23 during a six month period last year.
Liberal Democrat Whitehall ward Coun David Foster said: "It is time the Home Secretary came clean over what will happen with police numbers.
"Despite promises to increase police numbers he has allowed Lancashire to recruit fewer officers than they said they needed and if last year's figures continue to drop, the extra recruits promised will not replace the number of police officers leaving."
