TWO local schools have been singled out by the Government's Chief Inspector of Schools, Chris Woodhead, for their achievements.
The outstanding results achieved by Rainford High School and Allanson Street Primary School, Parr, have been acknowledged in this year's annual OFSTED report.
Rainford headmaster, Brian Arnold, told the Star: "Once again, the school is delighted with this national recognition of excellence. Following so soon on from the announcement of our gaining of Specialist School Status as a Technology College, it was very pleasing to receive a letter from Chris Woodhead, informing us that Rainford High was included in his annual report to parliament for special mention. "Of course, we were proud to receive such a high-quality OFSTED report last year, but to realise that this was one of the best in the country makes us even more proud. It is a tremendous achievement for the school and a fitting reward for the students and staff who have worked so hard to reach these high standards."
Allanson Street School was one of the primary schools nationwide to be commended for having achieved the greatest progress since its last inspection. The school was praised highly in its inspection report for having "considerable strengths that far outweigh the few weaknesses."
It was also described as having "procedures for monitoring and setting targets for improvement that are excellent" backed up by "a very high quality of leadership."
Headteacher, Chris Maloney, said: "This is recognition of the hard work, professionalism and commitment of all involved with the school. We will continue to maintain these high standards and provide a high-quality educational experience for all pupils. We are all obviously delighted with this national recognition.
