WITH reference to my previous comments (Letters, February 4) I am relieved to read that the office of Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen Borough is not in jeopardy.
Perhaps, if the council's own document on the matter, 'Working Together,' had not been so misleading I would not have jumped to the wrong conclusion.
For the benefit of those readers who may be forgiven for thinking that I am an uneducated idiot, I should explain what I read.
The council's leaflet set out to explain the new political structures as set out by the Government. It set out the four options which have been offered to councils:
a) An elected mayor plus a Cabinet (Executive Board)
b) A Cabinet (Executive Board) with leader
c) An elected mayor and a council manager
d) A leader and a council manager.
To keep the existing committee structure is not an option.
The document then goes on to state that the majority Labour group has proposed for consultation that the Executive Board with leader is the most appropriate structure for Blackburn with Darwen Council (Option B).
I therefore came to the obvious conclusion that the office of mayor would no longer exist.
EILEEN M EASTHAM, Milton Close, Darwen.
