A SINGLE mother who went shoplifting had £90 in her pocket, a court was told.

Burnley magistrates heard how Nadine Harrison, 26, saw a waistcoat without a security tag and decided to steal it.

She was caught out when the shop manageress noticed a spare coathanger.

Harrison, of Scotts Terrace, Burnley, admitted theft and motoring offences of no insurance, no licence, no test certificate and defective tyre.

She was fined a total of £155 and banned from driving for six months under the totting-up procedure.

The court heard Harrison, a mother of two, was looking for clothes for her daughter when she helped herself to the £22 waistcoat.

Mark Williams, defending, said Harrison had just received her benefits when she committed the theft.

She had intended to buy a waistcoat for her daughter, not steal one, and only made the decision to steal when she saw the tag missing.

He added the defendant was in receipt of benefits and her money did not go far.

She did not have an extensive record.
