PRIMARY school pupils are waging war on irresponsible dog owners who make their village a misery to walk through.
Reception class children at St Mary's Primary School, Mellor, had to pick their way round dog dirt when they visited a nearby playground.
And their older schoolfriends have decided to help out by publicising the problem on posters along the dirtiest street, Church Lane.
Acting headteacher Christine Taylor said: "We have always had a problem with dog fouling in Mellor and it seems to have been worse in the last few weeks.
"When we walked to the playground the street was so dirty, the reception class found it difficult to walk on the pavement and obviously they couldn't walk on the road."
The children have designed posters which have been laminated and attached to fences along Church Lane.
The children are also looking forward to a visit by the local dog warden, who will be talking about responsible pet-ownership.
St Mary's pupil Emma Talbot is pictured displaying one of the posters.
