MOTHER-of-two Lorraine Landon narrowly escaped an immediate prison sentence for her second offence of drink-driving - because of her children.

Stipendiary magistrate Jonathon Finestein told her that the offence merited an immediate custodial sentence.

"In this particular case I have to consider what would happen to your children in the event of you going to prison," said Mr Finestein.

"A two-year-old and a 13-year-old, in the formative part of her life, would be without their mum.

"There are matters set out in the pre-sentence report, which I will not go into, which mean there are special circumstances in this case."

Landon, 29, of Haston Lee Avenue, Brownhill, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol and assaulting a police officer.

She was sentenced to two months in prison, suspended for two years, disqualified from driving for three years and ordered to pay £55 costs.

Neil Standage, prosecuting, said Landon had been stopped on Brownhill Drive at 3.30am.

She had declined to give a roadside breath test and, as she was being arrested, kicked out catching one officer on the shin.

Jonathon Jackson, defending, said the behaviour was out of character for Landon who was genuinely trying to make something of her life.
