SINGLE shoppers entered into the Valentine spirit at Accrington's Asda store - but none of them could be persuaded to team up for a date.
The supermarket held a special singles night with the aim of bringing couples together.
Staff in fancy dress handed out name tags bearing the name of one half of a famous couple to single shoppers.
The customers were then called to "Lover's Lane" - one of the checkouts - to meet their "other half".
Once there, they were given a voucher which could be exchanged for free cinema tickets.
But customer service assistant Bernadette Webster said once the "couples" realised they would have to use the tickets together, they all chickened out.
She said: "We ended up giving them a pair of tickets each!"
