ROVERS fan and council boss Malcolm Doherty would have been forgiven for feeling claret and blue about a raffle prize he won at an Ewood charity dinner.
For the leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council won an autographed Burnley FC football and an invitation to watch the Clarets play at Turf Moor at a match of his choice.
Coun Doherty, an avid Rovers follower for many years, won the prizes at a dinner staged in aid of the Prince's Trust - and the irony was not lost on him.
He said: "There's obviously a lot of rivalry between Blackburn and Burnley at football and everybody saw the joke.
"I've passed the football on to a policeman who is running a raffle for Derian House.
"But I will be attending the match with my son, although I haven't decided which game I want to go to yet. "I'm sure I'll enjoy it, we do have a rivalry and that sometimes spills over which is a shame.
"Burnley is doing very well and there is a chance they could be playing Rovers in a league game for the first time in many years next season."
