ACCRINGTON'S multi-million pound town centre shopping complex has reached a critical stage - with all outdoor market traders opposed to the scheme.
Proposals involve building a large Wilkinsons store and between six to 10 shops on the current outdoor market site in Broadway.
The open market would be moved to where the bus station used to be.
Concerns were raised at an Accrington town centre regeneration board meeting last night.
Market trader Neville Singer said: "Traders have two concerns - the Wilkinsons store and the actual development. At a meeting with the market traders not one was in favour of the scheme."
Council leader Peter Britcliffe said: "I am anxious to hear the views from people over the next few weeks and then there will be a council meeting to say yes or no."
A fact-finding visit to Halifax where a Wilkinsons store was built next to the market will take place on March 1 to try to allay fears and asses the impact of the store on the potential loss of trade.
The Lancashire Evening Telegraph will run a phone poll tomorrow, giving you the chance to have your say.
