FOR once Downing Street press secretary Alastair Campbell wasn't first with the news when Ian Wright signed for the Clarets.
In fact, the top Burnley fan, more used to leading the way on news stories, was scooped by his young son!
In a personal message to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, Mr Campbell today welcomed the star signing.
He said: "My son paged me with the news when he saw it on Ceefax after he got back from school. I thought he was joking!
"It's great news and shows again that Burnley are determined to go all out for promotion.
"I work alongside a lot of Arsenal fans who say Wright is one of the most exciting players they have ever seen.
"The place is already buzzing because of our recent form and this can only help."
Burnley's mayor Eddie Fisk interrupted the agenda at a council meting to welcome the Wright signing.
He told the policy committee: "I think we should congratulate Burnley Football Club.
"It does a lot of good for Burnley and it is all down to good management at Turf Moor.
"They have done what a lot of other clubs would have liked to do."
