BURNLEY MP Peter Pike has renewed his demand for action into the kick-off "fiasco" at the Clarets away game against Stoke, despite being accused of getting his facts wrong by the Potteries club.

The town's Labour MP is not satisfied with the reply from Stoke City FC over the pre-match confusion which he says led to thousands of Burnley fans missing much of the first half.

They were delayed by an accident on the M6 and Mr Pike believes the kick-off of last month's game should have been put back.

He said: "I am still awaiting a reply from Staffordshire police and the Football League.

"The Stoke City letter conflicts very much with information I have from those who were at the match.

"I do not consider the issues closed."

The letter says the vast number of supporters were in the stadium at kick off.

Stadium and safety manager John Alcock said: "I can not see why you consider it nonsense not to have a half-hour delay. I do not see how you can make that comment when you had not got the facts correct and were not present.

"If a half-hour delay was not sufficient would you have expected a further delay?"

At kick off 13 of the 16 expected coaches were on the car park and two more arrived shortly afterwards.

Just after kick-off 14,500 spectators were in the stadium and he felt they would have been unhappy with a delay. The number who arrived after showed that the decision to kick off at 3pm was the correct one.
