LEIGH MINERS hold their heads high this week, still smiling from the shock result of their season.
It came at Siddal in the National Cup 3rd round.
Miners had already lost there in the Challenge Cup. But not this time as they beat the Yorkshire side 14-8, hitting back from the shock of a home try in their first attack.
That spurred Miners on with Jon Light and Phil Carroll driving ever forward, Chris Wilkinson constantly kicking them into good positions.
Carroll and Paul Shepherd set up the first try for Mick Warburton to score, then on the stroke of half-time Steve Flannery pounced on a grubbed kick for a second, Wilko improving both.
Siddal pulled two back with a penalty, Wilkinson kept the edge with two field goals. And Matt Irwin showed no nerve to take a last-second bomb as Miners progress with flying colours.
Miners A, with eight U18s in the side and Howard Newton off with a hand injury, fell 32-12 at Portico Panthers, the tries from Ben Dickinson and Craig Graham. Jimmy Davis hit two goals.
Miners U18s shut out Ince St Williams, the unbeaten NorthWest Counties League leaders.
They romped in 38-0 with tries for Paul Redfern, MoM Richard Varkulis, Tommy Goulden, Steven Clarke, Christian Holcroft, Simon Hartley 2, Jimmy Thompson and Craig Graham.
CULCHETH had no answer to ROYAL OAK in their NorthWest Counties Division Four clash, the Leigh side storming in 50-6. MoM D Parr.
Rest of the scores . . . Premier Division: Halton Simms Cross 16 Parkside Golborne 26; Division Two: Hindley 21 Shaw Rhinoes 18; Division Three: Leigh Harriers 26 Eccles 20; Division Six: Rochdale 18 Parkside Golborne 0.
