FOOTBALL stars of the future jet out to Pheonix, USA, tomorrow to take part in the annual President's Day Tournament.

The competition has become an annual event for students from Preston College, who field two teams each year, Athletico Preston and Real Preston.

Out in America, they will play the cream of American colleges' footballing talent, hoping to build on previous successes. They have twice won the event and were runners-up last year.

The trip is also used by American scouts to pick possible stars of the future from Preston. Several teenagers who took part in previous visits are playing in America.

Away from the soccer field, the students will visit Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, the hoover Dam and Death Valley, as well as looking at New York and Chicago.

Eager students at the college will be kept up-to-date with the teams' performances with daily reports being filed to the college by Media Studies students.

Debbie Henfield, an organiser of Preston's PY2K youth festival is also travelling to the US to try and persuade some Americans to take part in this summer's event.
