THE Warriors crashed out of the cup competition in the last minute of the game. Leyland made a spirited fight back to level the score at 28-28 after trailing 28-10. Darren Jones excelled with an amazing 23 tackles. Abbey Meadows ran the full length of the pitch to score a fine try. Man of the match was Darren Jones, best supporting player was Tom Rukin. Most improved player was Sam Taylor and top tackler went to Abbey Meadows.
U12: Leyland Warriors 4 Thatto Heath 20
DESPITE the scoreline the Warriors gave a good account of themselves against one of the top sides from St Helens. The match was evenly contested throughout with only the handling skills of the visitors making the difference. Man of the match was Johnathan Walker, top tackler was Andrew Benson. There was also a first ever try for Patrick Hothersall. U13: St Helens Crusaders 12 Leyland Warriors 28
THE U13 squad left Leyland to visit St Helens and faced a stronger opposition on paper, but the pitch provided the true test. The Warriors came out fighting and took an early lead although the Crusaders hit back almost immediately. Two more tries were added by the Leyland team before the break. The second period began with another quick strike by the Warriors and even though the commitment in the tackles decreased, St Helens could not take the game to Leyland and a fine team effort gave Warriors the victory. Man of the match was presented to both Neel Byrom and Greg Fishwick, Andrew Gardner received top tackler. Tries by Neel Byrom (4), Steven Wright and Andrew Gregson and two conversions by Greg Fishwick.
U14: Wigan St Pats 30 Leyland Warriors 0
A GOOD all-round team display by the U14s with some excellent tackling and ball play, the only thing lacking from the game was a Leyland score. The final score did not give a true reflection of the game. Man of the match was Jamie Jackson with James Franklin as runner-up. Top tackler was Sam Hyams.
