COMMUNITY champion Frank Parkinson was given the red carpet treatment in the Mayor's parlour.

Frank, of Birch Street, Tyldesley received the borough's Citizen of the Month award from the Mayor Cllr Evelyne Smith.

His endeavour to make life easier for those with visual and physical disabilities earned him the top accolade.

Frank is chairman of the Ring and Ride user group, has worked hard to improve access for the disabled and instigated the rotary cone indicators to make Pelican crossings safer for the visually handicapped.

He is pictured with his wife, Pat, receiving his award from the Mayor watched by Mayor's consort, son-in-law Alan Stevenson and Mark Aldred who nominated him for the award.
