A STUNNING display of colour greeted visitors to Avenham Park on Sunday, as the 100th annual Kimberley Parade marched into town.
Members of the Lancastrian and Cumbrian Volunteers joined Boer War veterans to mark the centenary of the Defence of Kimberley.
Troops of veterans carried the colours to Preston's Avenham Park, where a service and lesson was read out. The salute was taken by Brigadier Birtwistle, Colonel of the Queen's Lancashire Regiment.
After hymns, the troops marched with their flags back to Kimberley Barracks.
The event remembers the soldiers who defended Kimberley Barracks during the Boer War.
They held of the Boers for several months, after their supplies were intersected. The soldiers became known as the Loyal Regiment, and later became the Queen's Lancashire Regiment - which incorporates the Territorial Army.
