A NEW standards committee could be set up to deal with complaints against Preston councillors and officers.
The new Code of Conduct will provide clear rules for councillors and officers, to ensure that their behaviour is of the highest standard.
The standards committee would ensure that there is a transparent process in place, to ensure that any breaches of the code are reported and investigated promptly.
The committee would have an independent chairman, recruited from members of the local community.
Council leader Peter Rankin said: "We applaud the government's commitment to 'open government' and their proposals for a new ethical framework.
"We feel it is appropriate to introduce these new measures as soon as possible, to ensure that Prestonians have the confidence in our ability to serve them in an appropriate manner at all times."
