THE BRITISH Computer Society Disability Group (BCSDG) is a membership group that looks at the way computer technology can effectively assist people with disabilities.
It has been working in the voluntary disability sector for more than 20 years and is involved in several projects that enable disabled people to get the best out of computers.
Many people with disabilities can be helped to lead a fulfilled life by Information Technology (IT) in one form or another.
The function of ITCH therefore is to help those people for whom the computer is their principal means of communication and/or recreation, and assistance will be available to any disabled person in the Lancashire county area once the network is set up.
Voluntary helpers will visit them in their own homes and help them with any problem involving their computer.
My prime task as County Controller is to set up a volunteer panel of computer experts within the county.
I issue an appeal to any IT personnel, either hardware or software, who would be prepared to devote a few hours of their spare time to this work.
Anyone interested is invited to contact me on either (01204) 495904 or by e-mail at chiefy469@cwcom.net.
