THE Royal Navy is saluting a new officer.
Sub Lieut Chris Andrews, of Leigh, has successfully completed training at the Britannia Royal Naval College to become an engineering (training management) officer.
A former pupil of St Mary's RC High School, Astley, Chris joined the Royal Navy last April.
After graduating from the University of East Anglia with a degree in applied computing he worked for a year for NCL Investments providing IT support.
The course at the naval college has been at a hectic pace and included two months at sea aboard the frigate HMS Coventry which was operating as part of the NATO Standing Naval Force Atlantic.
The time on board provided Chris with an excellent introduction to all aspects of life at sea in a fully operational warship.
Charles and Paula Andrews, Chris's parents, travelled to Dartmouth, Devon, to witness the impressive passing our parade.
He has now joined the destroyer HMS Cardiff.
