AS LEIGH'S swans killer hunt continues Britain's shooters have slammed the actions of sadistic airgunners.

"We condemn this totally irresponsible behaviour," said Stephen Lea, Press officer for the British Association for Shooting and Conservation.

The BASC, the national body for shooting sports, has 130,000 members. It aims to educate air rifle users in the Leigh area.

Mr Lea said: "We liaise with Police and set-up sessions around the country where owners can learn how to use their guns properly.

"We would like to do this in the Leigh area to promote responsible gun use."

Anyone interested in attending such a session can contact Mr Lea during the day at the BASC on 01244 573026.

A £500 reward is on offer for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for killing two mute swans on Leigh's Lucky Hollow pond off Orchard Lane.

Anyone with information should ring freephone 0800 555 111 and quote number 966/2000.
