IN response to "St Anne's Churchgoer," (Your Letters, Feb 11), writing about the "over-zealous" officer who booked the offending parkers, I must point out that there are unbroken white lines along the centre of Chapel Street, Tottington. The full penalty for this parking offence is actually£40 and three licence points, a more serious matter than mere obstruction.
If only motorists would act lawfully and responsibly, then police hours would not have to be wasted enforcing the law.
Is this not another example of the "me, me, me" society referred to in earlier correspondence, implying that the police should deal with everyone else but leave "churchgoers" alone?
Nothing agitates the "law-abiding public" more than being informed that they cannot drive or park as they wish, as this upsets their smug self-righteousness and belief that they are right and everyone else is wrong.
