STUDENTS and teachers at Newman College are celebrating a double success.
Ten students have been offered places at Oxford and Cambridge and the college has recorded a 100 per cent pass rate for its maths GCSE resits.
And at Runshaw College, in Leyland, 19 students are also heading for places at Oxford and Cambridge.
Spokesman Jim Smith said: "We're thrilled that so many students have enjoyed success and wish them all the best for the future."
Cardinal Newman principal Kevin Quigley said that it was tradition for public schools to send students to Oxford and Cambridge and ten students was an outstanding figure. He added: "We are always pleased to celebrate the achievements of our students.
"These ten young people are to be congratulated on obtaining these offers- it is nothing less than they deserve for all their hard work.
Cambridge has offered places to Katie Baines, Elizabeth Bates, David Gethin, Delyth Jones, Caroline Quinn and Helen Russell.
And arch-rivals Oxford offered places to Krysia Cywinski, Michael Farrell, Ben Kinley and Ben Smyth.
All of the students resitting their maths GCSEs gained B or C grades, and the college's overall result for English and maths at grades A to C was more than 70 per cent.
Elwyn Smith, director of studies, said: "This was a brilliant set of results and excellent news for those students who have succeeded in improving from the grade D or E they got at high school.
"It will be a great confidence boost for them."
