THE incredible achievements of Lancaster's waterpolo team were acknowledged on behalf of the people of the whole county this week.
The team won the treble last season walking off with the prestigious British Championships, national league title and national cup.
A special reception was held for the all conquering heroes - which includes five internationals - at County Hall in Preston earlier in the week.
Chairman of Lancashire County Council Dr Ruth Henig said she admired the team's gruelling training sessions which begins before work at 5am.
She added: "It would be fair to call them the 'Manchester United of the pool.' They are real ambassadors for Lancashire."
Also present was county councillor David Wood who represented the team in 1937.
Lancaster are at Salt Ayre in the quarter finals of the National Cup at 8.30pm on Saturday. The following weekend the swimming pool will host this year's British championships.
