A DAD died of carbon monoxide poisoning after bringing a barbecue indoors while working in Crete.
Cameron Smith , of Prestwich, was working as a barman and labourer on the Greek island when the tragedy occurred on February 6.
Crete authorities say Mr Smith (30), and his cousin Lee held a barbecue at their apartment after finishing work.
They moved the stove indoors because of the cold. A towel was placed over the patio doors to block out a breeze. Mr Smith was found dead the following morning. His cousin was unconscious for 36 hours.
Mr Smith left his family home in Chapel Road, Prestwich, two years ago to live in Bournemouth.
His mother, Jean, said: "I want people to be aware of the dangers with barbecues as it could happen to anyone.
"I don't want anyone else to go through what I have gone through this week. It's such a waste, just unbelievable."
Cameron, a former pupil of St Paul's primary school and Prestwich High School, leaves a sister and three brothers.
His funeral is at St Paul's Church, Kersal, on Wednesday (Feb 23).
An inquest will be opened today (Friday Feb 18) in Rochdale. and adjourned pending the submission of further evidence from the Cretan authorities.
