A WOMAN out on her hen night was hit with a bottle - and her fiance was also attacked by the same person.

Preston Crown Court heard that Lisa Aldore was struck on the head in an incident at Blackburn's Utopia nightclub. In scenes that followed, her boyfriend, Mark Ali, was twice kicked to the body.

Mohammed Afzal, 20, of Woodfold Place, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to charges of wounding and common assault.

Nicholas Courtney, prosecuting, said Lisa Aldore, her sisters and friends, were celebrating her hen night last August. They ended up in Utopia, as did her fiance and the defendant.

Inside the premises there were two or three verbal confrontations between the defendant and Ali Afzal went on to swing out with his arm, while being partially restrained. Lisa Aldore was hit over the back of the head with a bottle, causing a cut.

Mr Ali later wanted to know why his girlfriend had been assaulted. The defendant kicked him twice.

Defence counsel Nick Kennedy, said the offences were occasioned, in part, by bad blood between the two men. It was claimed that the defendant, who does not drink, was confronted by Mr Ali at one stage.

Afzal himself made a complaint to doormen and did not think he received a sincere or genuine apology for what happened. Mr Kennedy added: "Mr Ali approached him and he wrongly struck out with the bottle.

"It unintentionally and unfortunately caught Lisa Aldore slightly on her head. The injuries were very minor."

Recorder Chris Alldiss passed a sentence of 18 months youth custody. He told the defendant: "It's quite plain you intended to use the bottle on somebody and that intent was a persistent one.
