A SURPRISED seabird got in a flap when it took a dip in the Leeds and Liverpool Canal - and became stuck in a lock.

The cormorant, with a wing span of more than 4ft, didn't have enough room to take off from the canal, at Nova Scotia Wharf, Bolton Road, Blackburn.

Staff from the nearby Groundwork environment centre and an RSPCA inspector helped free it.
