PUPILS at a primary school will have more reason to look forward to playtime thanks to the efforts of big-hearted helpers.

A team of volunteers from the Prince's Trust in Blackburn have created an adventure playground in the yard at St Thomas' Primary School at Newton Street in the town.

The project was carried out under the Gtech/Europrint employee involvement scheme, which matches needy causes with volunteers. The recently launched Challenge programme for 2000 gets employees to carry out one-off assignments, usually in work time.

Challenges range from decorating community centres to collecting household items to furnish a women's hostel.

Local firms, including Whitbread, B&Q and Ineos Acrylics, are already involved in the scheme.

Pupil Tori Duxbury and team leader Gary Kiyani are pictured with a height measure, one of the playground's new features.
