A GROUP of young dancers from an East Lancashire high school have beaten off competition from across the UK with a topical routine called County-cide.

The team of nine pupils, aged between 12 and 15 years, from the Ribble Valley's Bowland High put the routine together for the Dance Beat 2000 competition.

Head of PE Andrea Yates explained: "The competition asked for groups to put a routine together and it had to be based around the theme of My Community Millennium.

"Our routine is about the death of the countryside which is a very topical issue in the Ribble Valley at the moment and the moves reflect destruction."

The team, who are all members of the school's dance club, sent a video of the routine to the competition and have been invited to perform at the North West final at Manchester's Dance House Theatre on March 4.

Miss Yates went on: "Hundreds of different groups entered routines so we are really pleased to have been chosen to perform and the team are really looking forward to it."
