HYNDBURN MP Greg Pope has welcomed the announcement that local targets for reducing car crime, domestic burglary and robbery are to be set from April.
In Lancashire targets have been set to reduce vehicle crime by 30 per cent and burglary by 34 per cent.
Mr Pope said: "At the election I promised that Labour would be tough on crime and tough on the causes of crime.
"I warmly welcome the publication of targets for the police, which shows how Labour is taking forward that agenda.
"Since 1997, overall recorded crime has fallen by seven per cent, with domestic burglary falling by 20 per cent, but there is still more to be done.
"In Lancashire targets to reduce vehicle crime by 30 per cent and burglary by 34 per cent have been set and I warmly welcome this action.
"And by getting people off welfare and into work, supporting families, improving education and housing and investing in our communities, Labour is also focusing on the factors which lead to crime in the first place."
