ACCIDENT victim Joseph Cichocki was today said to be in a "stable" condition in intensive care at the Royal Preston Hospital.
Mr Cichocki, 73, of Lancaster Gate, Nelson, suffered serious head injuries in a collision with a car as he crossed Manchester Road at 10.45am on Sunday.
He was taken to Burnley General Hospital before being transferred to Preston.
The driver of the white Fiat stopped while a passer-by phoned for an ambulance then drove off without leaving his details.
The vehicle was traced and a man was yesterday interviewed by police who are continuing with their inquiries.
