AN engineering worker who had half his left thumb ripped off in a horrific works accident was today described as "comfortable" in the Royal Preston Hospital.
Peter Ashworth, 51, of Richmond Street, Accrington, also suffered serious chest injuries and needed surgery to three fingers after the incident at Kirk Engineering Ltd, West End Business Park, Oswaldtwistle on Monday.
Mr Ashworth, who is left-handed, was taken to Blackburn Infirmary and later transferred to Preston.
The Health and Safety Executive is investigating.
