A PIONEERING scheme set up to help disabled shoppers is in the process of securing its own premises.

Shopmobility, which was set up last June, should have a place in Whalley Road, Accrington, by April. The scheme gives disabled shoppers the free loan of scooters and wheelchairs for up to three hours.

The building will be fully adapted to provide access from the front and rear for wheelchairs and will be open three days a week.

There will be an exhibition area displaying aids and adaptations available for disabled people and a meeting area for the able bodied and disabled.

A space will also be set aside where local disabled people can display home-made crafts and other objects for sale.

Volunteers are being sought. Call Richard Day on 01254 301750.
