A YORKSHIRE millionaire has left £5,000 to the Burnley-based animal charity the Horses and Ponies Protection Association.
John Fewster, from Batley, died in January last year leaving £3,274,000, including bequests of £5,000 to HAPPA and £3,000 to the RSPCA.
HAPPA secretary Irene Milton-Hall said the charity was wholly dependent on donations and legacies were a major part of its income.
The charity runs two farms, at Briercliffe where there are 70 horses and in Gwent where there are another 65.
The bedding bill alone at Briercliffe amounts to £2,000 a month, before the cost of feed, vet and farrier bills.
