POLICE called to a house had been told a man was trying to hang himself, Burnley magistrates heard.
Officers who went to Colne Road, Burnley, found Glen Kennedy, 26, in something of a 'deranged state,' banging on walls with his fists. They thought he was drunk and at that point Kennedy lay on the floor and put a mattress on top of himself. Ambulance staff refused to take the defendant to hospital because of his behaviour, said Nigel Harrison, prosecuting.
The court was told medics discussed whether Kennedy should be sectioned, but it was concluded his behaviour was drug-induced.
Kennedy, of Colne Road, Burnley, was bound over in the sum of £50, for six months. Bill Berry, defending, said Kennedysimply had too much to drink and couldn't recall anything of the incident.
