AN emergency service in Lancashire is on the lookout for new volunteers.
The British Red Cross Lancashire Branch Carer's Emergency Card scheme - a 24-hour emergency cover service for carers - wants to hear from anybody who can spare time to help .
The service ensures that if carers are involved in an accident their dependants are not left stranded.
Patricia Bullock, assistant community services manager in Lancashire, said: "This simple and easy to use scheme was developed to meet the needs of carers who were concerned about what would happen if they were out alone and had an accident.
"They wanted a scheme that would give them peace of mind and provide 24-hour assistance, ensuring maximum security for the people they were looking after.
"The carer's emergency card scheme was successfully launched in Preston and due to funding from Lancashire County Council's carers grant we are now in the position to expand the scheme throughout the local authority's area.
"Therefore we are looking to recruit new volunteers to deliver this vital community service.
"Volunteers would be part of an on call system where they could be called upon should any of the emergency contacts registered by the carer on the database be unavailable."
