BURNLEY'S chances of leapfrogging Wolves in the Pontins League table were blown apart by a three-goal salvo in the last half hour at Turf Moor last night.
A Micky Mellon blockbuster and a sharp finish from Dean West saw the Clarets surge into a 2-1 half-time lead.
But all their good work was undone in a 17-minute spell after the break as Wolves fought back to claim the spoils.
With Gerry Harrison out to impress manager Stan Ternent during his trial spell, the Clarets dominated the first half.
And they took the lead in sensational style after just seven minutes when Mellon's fierce volley from outside the box rocketed into the top right hand corner.
The visitors equalised three minutes later, however, when Paul Simpson robbed Gordon Armstrong on the edge of the box and tucked a shot past Craig Mawson.
But Burnley regained the lead on 25 minutes when Mark Robertson flicked on a Paul Smith cross and Dean West stole in to steer the ball home.
Harrison nearly capped his return with a goal just before the break but the keeper came out to smother at his feet.
And that proved to be the turning point as Wolves took control in the final half hour.
First, Ryan Green hauled them level with a stunning daisy cutter from fully 30 yards which caught Mawson by surprise.
Then, with 15 minutes left, Adam Proudlock capitalised on slack defending to net with a close range header and scored again two minutes later.
And to compound the Clarets misery, they were hit by a further blow in the last 10 minutes when Gordon Armstrong limped off with a leg injury.
