A COUNCIL has made a green pledge.
The Mayor of the Ribble Valley, Coun Brian Collis, signed the Lancashire Biodiversity Declaration, confirming the borough council's commitment to wildlife conservation.
The declaration calls for a partnership of community interests to protect and enhance the county's rich natural heritage for present and future generations.
It originated at the 1992 Earth Summit in Brazil, at which 150 countries, including the UK, pledged to stop the loss of habitats and species.
Coun Collis signed the declaration at a ceremony beside the River Ribble at Ribchester.
Schoolchildren from the Ribble Valley were there for the event, as was Lancashire biodiversity project officer Tony Serjeant.
