A WOMAN was trapped in her car after a head-on collision in Whalley Old Road near Shepherd's Brow, Blackburn, today.
The woman was cut free by paramedics and firefighters and lifted through the rear of her Honda Civic after it collided with an Astra, which was travelling towards Blackburn at 9am.
She was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary with a broken leg and neck and back injuries.
The man who was driving the Astra managed to get out of his car and was also taken to the hospital.
Station Commander Mick Holmes at Accrington Fire Station said: "We cut the driver's door away to get near to the woman in the Honda Civic.
"She was removed from the car through the rear using a longboard, a plastic board which was used to keep her back rigid as she had neck and back injuries."
A Peugeot and a Citroen were also involved in the collision.
Melanie Gilfeather, 23, of Cravens Heath, Blackburn, was driving the Peugeot, and Dr Saroi Datta, 50, of Whinney Lane, Langho, was driving the Citroen. Both women were uninjured.
The road was closed for over an hour.
