I WROTE to the Citizen recently to express my concerns about the effects of the Millennium Bridge on the residents of Lune Street.
I explained that the street would effectively become a 'gateway' into the city with considerable pedestrian, cycling and traffic activity yet no provision has been made for this.
I had hoped that a councillor or officer would write to explain that these matters had been taken into account but there has been absolutely no response.
When the bridge is finished we will have a situation where cyclists will be travelling one way along a street where traffic is going the other way. Surely a recipe for disaster! There's also the possibility of a traffic parking problem at peak times.
The authority's statement of commitment in my view will soon be shown up for what it is - a meaningless, paper exercise that bears no relation to reality.
If only I could show the same lack of interest when my council tax arrives.
No longer hopeful, Lune Street, Lancaster
