CHIPS with everything! That's the prospect in store for take-away fans in Penwortham as a local chippy embarks on an unusual charity stunt.

Staff at Ollie's Fish and Chip Shop, in Leyland Road, Lower Penwortham, are planning a 48-hour 'chipathon' in aid of local children's hospice Derian House.

Their food fest kicks off at 11.30am on Friday (Feb 25), and they won't stop frying until 11.30am on Sunday (Feb 27).

Paul Oldroyd, who runs Ollie's, said: "We have never done anything like this before.

"The staff are all up for it, and hopefully the regulars will back us as well."

The idea for the fillet-filled fun days came about when a member of Paul's family was struck down by cancer. He said: "I presented the idea to the family, but the person who had the "big C" said they would rather we raised money for Derian House." The event will give locals in Penwortham their first 24-hour fish and chip supply, and Paul is hoping they will come in day and night!

He will be leading the 48-hour assault on the tastebuds, taking just a few hours off to watch football on the Saturday.

He said: "I am working there during the night so I will need some company to keep me going.

"I might even get some eggs in so we can do special breakfasts for people.

"We are hoping the idea will catch the imagination of locals and help us raise more money then we ever have before."

Staff have promised to donate part of their wages to the event, while Paul will add £10 for every hour the shop stays open. Two raffles are also being held.

Customers will also be asked to dig deep for the privilege of being able to pick up their favourite fish supper at all hours.
