A FORMER mayoress of Burnley, who had a long association with St Stephen's Church, has died aged 72.
Mrs Elizabeth Bailey, always known as Betty, was the wife of the late Coun Frank Bailey, mayor in 1979-80.
Mrs Bailey of Todmorden Road, Burnley, died in the Burnley and Pendle Hospice. She was Burnley born and lived in the Todmorden Road area all her life.
When her husband was mayor, Mrs Bailey always accompanied him official duties.
In her younger days, Mrs Bailey was an assistant in the drapery department in the old Burnley Co-operative Society store on Hammerton Street.
She was involved with the local Conservative Association and was a founder member of Cancer Relief, now the MacMillan nurses.
Mrs Bailey leaves two brothers and a nephew.
Her funeral will be on Monday at 10.45am at St Stephen's, followed by cremation at Burnley.
