ST HELENS Hockey Club reached the final of the Lancashire Trophy with a gritty 2-1 victory over Rossendale on Sunday.
The local lads showed a greater will to win than a team who are three divisions higher than them.
The back four provided a formidable barrier against the Rossendale attack and 'keeper Mike Hall was in top form.
Their battling display was rewarded with goals from Mark Alcock and Chris Mitchell.
St Helens now meet Division Two side Liverpool Sefton in the final on March 5.
It was a different story on Saturday, when an under-strength St Helens side lost 5-2 at Crewe. Scorers were Mark Alcock and Paul Horton.
