A HEALTH project based in Preston, designed to tackle health inequality and social exclusion was singled out for praise at an award ceremony.
The Navajo Project: Lesbian and Gay Health Strategy, was singled out in the 'excellent' category at the NHS Health Equality Awards.
The project uses an extensive network of agencies to look at the provision of safe spaces where lesbian and gay people can access information, personal development and the development of a friendly assurance charter for health agencies.
Secretary of State for health Alan Milburn, said: "The NHS is the largest employer in the country, the largest in any town.
"It has the power to break down barriers and revitalise communities, thinking beyond traditional boundaries in the service it delivers."
