CARNFORTH recorded their biggest win of the season when they demolished a strong Wigan side.
Centre Phil Metcalfe created 42 of the 47 points scored no fewer than four tries before being taken to hospital with a nasty cut.
And Iain Parkinson emulated his 'hat trick' last week with two tries and six conversions out of the seven he kicked.
Early on Wigan played well and took a deserved 10-7 lead when they punished a lack of defence.
But on the stroke of half-time, Parkinson fed a short pass for Metcalfe to burst through for a converted try and a 14-10 lead.
Carnforth sealed the game early on in the second half with three tries in 10 minutes. Metcalfe completed his hat trick in superb style, taking a long pass from Parkinson before cutting back inside to score a deserved treble. Minutes later and it was Parkinson who grabbed a try, charging through the defence to score a try, also converting.
Almost from the restart, centre Stuart Whitham received the ball and after a superb 40 yard break he fed the ball to Parkinson who ran in his second try of the day. He also converted the extra two pints to give his team a 33-10 lead.
Wigan tried to get back in the game and hit an unconverted try when they caught Carnforth napping.
That only inspired Carnforth to score another two tries themselves. Metcalfe scored his fourth try the afternoon after good work from full back Stuart Walker and when Metcalfe was on for his fifth try he was brought to an abrupt halt by the Wigan centre with a dangerous high tackle which meant Metcalfe required hospital treatment for a nasty cut.
