Shaw Rhinos 24, Haresfinch 6
FINCH produced a spirited effort against the Iestyn Harris-coached promotion favourites Shaw in a game that was much closer than the final scoreline indicates.
The visitors started well with young prop Robbie Broughton to the fore and deservedly took the lead when loose-forward Anthony Seabrook fired out a long pass to send centre John Jackson in under the bosts. Seabrook added the conversion.
Gradually though Shaw began to hit their stride and by the interval they had moved ahead with two converted touchdowns.
The second half was an uphill struggle for Finch and, not for the first against these opponents, their cause wasn't helped by some strange refereeing decisions.
Three late touchdowns sealed victory for the homesters.
Seabrook was the Franco's Wholesale Ltd. man-of-the-match for Finch, with Stuart Simmons and Shaun Kilgannon in close contention and substitute Ste Marsh also worthy of mention.
