PRESTON North End boss David Moyes has told new striker Brett Angell he can stay for good - but he has to prove himself first.

Moyes was speaking after the club confirmed that Stockport County had agreed to release Angell until the end of the season.

A permanent deal looks likely for the player, who was transfer-listed for free after asking for huge wages.

Big Angell, who is six foot two inches tall, has knocked away some 60 goals in the past three seasons, and will provide North End with the added striking power they need to blast their way to the Division Two title.

Speaking to the Citizen on Thursday, Moyes said: "We've brought Brett here to give us a bit of added cover and, coupled with the centre forwards we already have at the club, hopefully we now have some players who can keep us at the top of the league.

"Brett has scored most of his goals in the First Division and we are hoping that coming into the Second Division he can score one or two more for us.

"If Brett does well then there is no question he will earn himself a contract but he has to come in and impress me and everybody else and show us what he can do."

Brett has been given the number 32 shirt and goes straight into Saturday's squad against Gillingham.
