SUPER-scorer Brett Angell has put pen to paper and agreed to join Preston North End until the end of the season.

Angell's arrival from Stockport County heralds the end of David Moyes' hunt for a new striker, which appears to have been his main concern during recent weeks.

The 31-year-old's decision to join North End could also pave the way for Kurt Nogan to depart the club as the vultures begin to gather around Deepdale.

Angell, who has a goalscoring record of roughly one every two games, met up with the PNE board on Wednesday and, following lengthy talks with Moyes, agreed to join North End.

The deal was tied up on Thursday morning. North End's deputy chairman, Derek Shaw, said: "Terms have been agreed with Stockport to bring him to the club.

"This is the way David Moyes wants to handle things, as Brett hasn't played for six weeks."

"David wants to look at his fitness levels and hopefully Brett can show his ability. The transfer could become permanent if Brett does well in his loan period."

The loan deal should keep Angell at the club until the end of the season, and is expected to result in one hell of a scrap for the striking places in the team.

With Jon Macken hitting form this season, and Steve Basham returning to fitness, Kurt Nogan and Bjarki Gunnlaugsson could find themselves out in the cold.

Angell's arrival at Deepdale follows hot on the heels of Ian Anderson, who has agreed a loan deal at Deepdale until the end of the season.
