THE top of the table beckons for Radcliffe Borough as they prepare to take on Burscough at Stainton Park on Saturday (3pm).

Boro are shooting for a third win in a week and remained very much on course for end-of-season glory with a solid three-point performance at Trafford on Tuesday.

Ever the perfectionist, Boro boss Kevin Glendon said: "We played some really good football but missed plenty of opportunities up front."

Boro have one injury worry ahead of the mouthwatering weekend encounter which sees Boro up against the team they currently share second place with in the table. Simon Carden took a knock on a hip at Trafford and is doubtful. But Paul Mullin returns after missing the midweek match through work commitments.

A win could see Boro alone at the top if Witton, who Boro still have to play twice including away on the last day, lose at mid-table Belper.

Radcliffe defeated Burscough on the road recently but Glendon this week adopted a "keep what we've got" line.

He explained: "I would be happy if the weekend passes and the teams around us have not made any ground. It is important we don't lose. We have beaten Burscough already this season. It is not a negative approach. It is just that they now have to reverse that result. It is for them to do all the running. "It is the same with Accrington who we have already beaten away but still have to play here. If we can take at least four points off each of our rivals, like we did against Bradford, we will have done very well. If we can take all six then so much the better."

Incidentally it is Accrington who Glendon believes will pose the biggest threat as the season enters its final quarter.

"Whoever finishes above them will be promoted," he said.

The Boro players are showing the commitment necessary to "take all six", as evidenced in midweek when vocal encouragement and team spirit were as much responsible for victory as were talent and tactics.

"It is an incredible achievement for us to be doing so well," added Glendon. "It is all down to the players."
